Litigation · Toronto, Ontario
Precise
advocacy,
serious
results.
A Toronto litigation boutique built on a simple premise: the lawyer who meets you is the lawyer who argues your case. Focused files, senior judgment, relentless preparation.
Where a focused firm does its most decisive work.
Disputes are won on preparation and judgment long before the hearing. These are the areas where that discipline pays.
Real Estate & Property Litigation
Ownership, easement and title disputes, agreements of purchase and sale, and partition-and-sale proceedings where co-owners cannot agree.
Civil & Commercial Litigation
Contract breaches, shareholder and partnership conflicts, and business disputes resolved with an eye to cost, leverage, and outcome.
Mortgage & Loan Enforcement
Enforcement of mortgages and secured loans: power of sale, possession, and recovery on personal covenants and guarantees when a borrower stops paying.
Insurance Coverage Disputes
Duty-to-defend and coverage questions, pressing insurers to honour their obligations, or defending the scope of a policy.
Motions, Summary Judgment & Appeals
Early, dispositive motions and summary judgment to end weak claims quickly, and appellate advocacy when the record demands it.
Contract & Deposit Disputes
Recovery and defence of deposits, holdbacks and contractual entitlements, including specific performance where money is not enough.
Why a boutique, and why this one.
Bigger is not the same as better. A smaller firm can be faster, sharper, and far more invested in your file.
Senior attention, start to finish
Your file is not staffed to a rotating cast of juniors. One senior lawyer owns the strategy, the correspondence, and the courtroom.
Technology-driven efficiency
A modern practice built on purpose-made tooling, so more of your fee buys thinking and advocacy, and less buys administration.
Relentless preparation
Cases are won in the work no one sees. Every fact chased down, every authority read, every argument tested before it is made.
Plain-spoken strategy
Clear advice in plain language. You will always know where your matter stands, what it is likely to cost, and why.
Shaun Rotman
Shaun Rotman is a Toronto litigator and the founder of Rotman Law, a boutique focused on real-estate, civil and commercial disputes. He built the firm around a conviction he had formed over years of practice: that clients are best served by senior counsel who carries the file personally, from first call to final order.
His work spans property and partition disputes, mortgage and loan enforcement, insurance-coverage litigation, and hard-fought motions. Before his call to the bar he worked in information technology, and those skills remain central to how he practises, particularly in an era of virtual hearings and paperless litigation. In negotiation and in court alike, he is known to be charmingly tenacious.
Called to the Ontario Bar in 2015. Member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Canadian Bar Association, the Ontario Bar Association, and the Toronto Lawyers Association. His downtime is spent hiking, camping, and photographing.
